House of the Rising Sun

　昨夜、中公版のチェーホフ全集に入っている「名の日の祝い」を再読。なぜこの小説が好きなのか判らないが、十年に一度くらい読む。この全集は今は宝物です。
　（名の日の祝いとは、自分の洗礼名と同じ名を持つ聖者の祭日）

　ジョーン・バエズ、ボブ・ディラン、ピンク・フロイドなども歌っているが、 House of the Rising Sun
はやはりAnimals。2005年版はこれ。やはり若い頃の方がインパクトがある。

　ちなみに、House of the Rising Sun にはAnimalsの歌詞のほかにアメリカ民謡としてのTraditionalな歌詞がある。ジョーン・バエズ、ボブ・ディランはむしろこちらの歌詞だろう。

　このように、Animalsの歌詞は「男唄」であり、ジョーン・バエズが唄ったTraditionalな歌詞は実は「女唄」なのである。ちあき・なおみの歌もまた「女唄」として歌われている。
　「女唄」の切々たる情緒も捨てがたいが、個人的な好みから言えば、やはり野卑な男のルサンチマンがドーンと真正面から唄われているAnimalsの「男唄」にいかれてしまうのであります。
